Accreditation
HCA is honored to have met the stringent standards and requirements to be accredited by the American Association of Christian Schools. Accreditation status alone is not the ultimate goal; continued school growth is the goal. We have voluntarily put ourselves under the scrutiny of this trusted outside organization to help us continue our pursuit of excellence for Christ.
Teaching Staff
At HCA, our teachers are continually reminded that influence in your child’s life and heart is the greatest thing you, as a parent, can possibly give. It is understood that teaching here is a calling. Our teaching staff is largely made up of degreed teachers who are constantly being stretched to continue their own personal and professional development. Our staff is expected to strive for personal excellence for Christ in teaching the teaching of academic concepts and principles. Biblical integration into every subject, every day is required, inspected, and implemented. While having a strong core curriculum in place, it is essential that our staff and parents recognize that at the end of the day, teachers introduce their beliefs, doctrines, knowledge, background, and life-experiences into the classroom. The classroom is ultimately run by the teacher, not a set of standards on a curriculum guide. With our mission at the forefront, this is the reason why faculty is so carefully selected.
Curriculum
The proper selection, lesson planning, and teaching of core curriculum is vital to the success of our students. The scope and sequence of our core curriculum selection is a guiding tool to ensure a student’s continued enrollment will allow them to follow a clear and challenging path of education all the way until they graduate from HCA.
Our primary core curriculum comes from Abeka. They have been around for over half a century, and their curriculum has proven to show excellent results in students all over the world. Abeka is known for its traditional approach to education. Abeka excels at using a constant spiral approach to education, consistently reintroducing concepts from previous years in order to bring each student to a place of mastery in that concept. Abeka is designed to be used to educate students by teaching concepts from a biblical worldview as opposed to a humanistic approach that is celebrated in most schools today. Our youngest students are taught phonics, which provides a solid foundation for reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. Our elementary students gain a firm grasp of the facts of history and science while learning mathematical skills through constant repetition, memorization, critical thinking, and hard work. Our secondary students benefit from a strong focus on grammar, history, math, and science.
We also use textbooks from the following providers: Saxon Math (used for some of our high school math courses), Ramsey Education (Dave Ramsey’s curriculum for personal finance), Answers Bible Curriculum (by Answers in Genesis, used in 1st-12th Bible classes), and Bob Jones University Press.
